Right, so where do we even *start* with these things? I saw someone, like, *mention* them in passing on, I think, maybe, uh, it was probably… well, it doesn’t matter. The point is, it got me thinking. And you know what thinking leads to? Spending money, usually on something you probably don’t need.
Anyway, these H&M sandals that everyone’s saying are “dupes” for Hermes Oran sandals. Let’s be real, “dupe” is just a fancy way of saying “cheap knock-off,” but hey, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck… except it costs a fraction of the price, amirite?
I mean, look, Hermes Oran sandals are, like, iconic. They scream “I have a yacht and a private jet, and I occasionally slum it by drinking rosé in the Hamptons.” But me? My yacht is inflatable, my jet is a Southwest flight, and my rosé comes in a box. So, shelling out hundreds (or is it thousands now?!) for sandals just feels…wrong.
Which brings us back to H&M. I haven’t actually *seen* these sandals in person, but from the pictures online, they look…decent? I mean, you’re not fooling anyone into thinking you’re legit rocking Hermes, but if you squint and maybe stand behind a bush… nah, I’m kidding. They’re clearly not the same quality. You probably won’t be getting any artisan-crafted leather or whatever.
But here’s the thing: does it *really* matter? For everyday wear? For running errands? For looking vaguely put-together while you’re grabbing a coffee? Probably not. And if you scuff them up, who cares? They’re H&M. You can just buy another pair.
Thinking about this whole “dupe” thing, it kinda reminds me of that whole “best Chinese movie of the year” debate. Like, remember that thing about *The Wandering Earth 2* winning some local tea shop’s “best of” award? (Found that gem on Zhihu, BTW). It’s all subjective, right? Just because something’s expensive and “high-end” doesn’t automatically make it better. Maybe the H&M sandals are surprisingly comfy! Maybe they’re surprisingly durable! Maybe… nah, probably not, but you get my point.
Of course, there’s the whole ethical thing to consider. Is buying a “dupe” contributing to the fast fashion problem? Probably. But then again, is buying *anything* from H&M a morally sound choice? Hmm… I’ll have to think about that later. Preferably while wearing comfy sandals. Maybe even a Hermes dupe!
Honestly, I’m probably going to end up buying a pair. I just hope they don’t fall apart after one wear. If they do, I’ll just blame it on the aliens and pretend I’m starring in *The Wandering Earth 3*. And maybe finally find that good ED2K download client I was looking for… different topic, completely.
